Arch Pain Treatment

Arch pain is a common problem

Pain in the arch of the foot is a common problem among professional and recreational athletes, as well as non-athletes. It is responsible for balance, movement stabilisation, shock absorption, adaptation to terrain changes, and bearing your entire weight. As such, it plays an important role in our everyday lives and, if injured, it can prevent us from properly performing even some of the most basic activities like walking or running.

South Coast Sports Podiatry experts are trained and certified to diagnose the pain in the arch of the foot and administer most adequate foot arch tendonitis treatment. We have established our practice with the aim to help people regain complete functioning after any podiatry-related issue. Now, years later, we are proud to say that we have helped a multitude of patients successfully treat a sore foot arch.

Causes of Arch Pain

Pain in the arch of the foot can be a result of an injured muscle, bone, ligament or tendon. It can also be caused by structural stress prompted by overuse, aging, weight gain, physical stress, or an underlying neurological condition.

Some of the most common conditions that require foot arch treatment include:

  • Plantar fasciitis, caused by overuse, inflammation, or injury. Patients report feeling pain and stiffness in their arch that worsens after prolonged activities are performed on the feet (even standing).
  • PTTD (Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction), is a result of inflammation and injury. The pain can extend from the front of the calf muscle – along the inside of the shin bone to the inner aspect of the ankle and into the arch, while in some more severe cases people may experience swelling.
  • Overpronation is a term used to “flat-footedness” in an individual.
  • Cavus foot refers to a very high arch, and people with cavus foot may feel pain while standing or walking. Some patients showed to be more prone to ankle sprains and are often prescribed special shoe inserts for added stability.

How we can help you

South Coast Sports Podiatry is your go-to team of professionals when you need to have your feet examined. In our facilities at 75 Cygnet Avenue, we are equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic tools required to provide the most accurate diagnosis and come up with the best arch pain treatment for individual patients.

During the examination, we will try to learn as much as possible about your medical history and daily routine, in addition to conducting a physical examination to pinpoint the location of the discomfort you are feeling. We will look for any signs of swelling and inflammation, and check whether you have any problems with balance, reflexes, coordination or muscle tone.

If we deem necessary, we may suggest an X-ray, MRI scan, CT scan or an ultrasound.
